Scott's musical life began playing the bongos with the family band.
With mother on the piano, father and brother on the trombone,
and sister at the clarinet, the family band would play at family
parties. At age 10 he graduated to the saxophone which remains his
instrument of choice. Studying jazz extensively in high school and
college in addition to loving many other styles of music has led to
Scott having diverse musical experiences during his musical career.
Scott has scored numerous films
and TV shows including writing the theme for the Prime
Time CBS Television series "Rescue 911" (which
earned him 3 BMI TV/Film awards) and other programs that
have aired on UPN, Lifetime, The Discovery Channel, TNT
Scott is currently the Jazz Band Director at
New Roads High School in Santa Monica California and also
taught during at the Crossroads High School
2008, 2009 and 2010 Summer Jazz Camps.
In addition, Scott currently serves as the music director
at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Santa Clarita.
Scott is a founding member of the Wild Colonials. Since
it's inception in 1992, the band received much critical
praise, signed to Geffen records, released 3 records nationally
and toured nationally. Highlights of their career include
recording at Peter Gabriel's studios in Bath England,
being backed up by artist's Rickie Lee Jones, Cindy Lauper,
Jon Brion (Magnolia's), Pete Thomas (Elvis Costello),
Matt Chamberlain (Pearl Jam), Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili
Peppers), and other's. They shared stages with artists
such as Los Lobos, King Crimson, Midnight Oil, Sara Mclachlan
(The Lilith Fair Tour) and Chris Isaak. The 3rd album
("Reel Life"), a tribute to finding a home for
their music in multiple films an TV shows.
Working with other musicians
Previously Scott worked as assistant composer on the hit T.V.
show C.S.I. and Scott has also provided support, programming
and training for composers James Newton Howard, Steve Porocaro,
Russ Landau, Donny Wilkerson, Josh Alexander, Billy Steinberg and others.
Scott's work has contributed to numerous Multi Platinum
albums, award winning films, and hit T.V. Shows.
Scott has served as Music Director at the Santa Clarita Unitarian
Universalist Community Church since 2004 where he frequently performs
original compositions. Prior to this commitment he performed
at the Unitarian Community Church of Santa Monica and performed live music
for weekly yoga classes in the Santa Monica Area led by Terra Gold.
Scott is a multi-instrumentalist and plays instruments
from many cultures. A wind player at the heart, he plays soprano,
alto, tenor & baritone saxophone, concert flute, bamboo
flute, American Indian flute, Irish flute, fife, pennywhistle,
ocarina and didjeridu. He has also been seen picking up the
electric bass, the guitar, sitting at the piano or
taking at seat at the drum or percussion throne.
Scott performed live with Tracy Chapman and
contributed as a Didjeridu player on her triple platinum
album "New Beginning". Scott has recorded with
producers Tchad Blake (Sheryl Crow, Los Lobos) Tony Berg
(Michael Penn) and Don Geham (Tracy Chapman).
Scott graduated cum laude from the Berklee School of
Music in Boston. He has composed & arranged music
for orchestra, choir, big bands, and various small
Scott also understands film making from the film makers
point of view as he was formerly a picture editor. Scott
edited music videos for artists including Lenny Kravitz,
Celine Dion, Karyn White, Was Not Was, Maxi Priest, Alice
In Chains, and Electric Light Orchestra.
